Military challenge coins are a part of the military
uniform which serves as a hidden identity. This hidden identity is used in case
of any kind of emergency. There are several different styles of the challenge
coins that are a part of the military force. Each regiment and unit has their
own monograms and writings which depict the regiments’ logo. These logos are
given to the mints by the different units themselves and each one of them has a
copyright which cannot be used in any circumstances even after several years.
The military challenge coins are not just a good way
to make the new recruits feel a part of the military by giving them a secret
identity but it is also important for them to know that all these people have
to make sure that they carry these coins with them at all the time which
include off duty and on duty hours. There are two basic ways through which the
presence of these coins are usually checked out by most seniors;
1 The
senior slams down hard his military challenge coin on a hard surface to alert
all the young recruits present in hearing range to show their coins and all
those who do not have their coins with them or are not able to show their coins
in a matter of a few seconds have to buy a round of drinks to all.
2 Another
way of challenging the military challenge coins is to call out to all the
recruits present to show their coins.
In any case if the coins are lost or are stolen, the
case has to be reported to the unit immediately so that some kind of action can
be taken. On account of carelessness and losing the coin because of its very
strict military action is taken against such a soldier.
The military
challenge coins are minted in several different ways but actually the history
goes back to the World War I when the air force fraternity gave all the
soldiers the coins of the same kind which helped these pilots to save their
lives and prove their identity as local soldiers on the border and not of the
enemy army. Professional artists are designing the coins now and all kinds of
designs and colors can be added to the coin to add to their beauty. These coins
are a part of the military and cannot be passed on to anyone until and unless
the coin is not worth anything anymore. The shape of the military challenge
coins may differ according to the demand of the unit head and a group of people
can decide about the shape as the price of the minting of a different shaped
coin differs and gets higher. In the Air Force the coin can be shaped as a
fighter jet, for the army it can be shaped as a tank or a rifle and similarly
for the navy it can be shaped as a naval ship or a submarine.
I bought some great medallions for my officers for their outstanding performance over the last year. I found some good design in the challenge coins city. Even they help me to enhance the design of the coins.
